Simple steps to become more positive in life

We all know how important is to keep ourselves positive and motivated at all times. Everyday some or other things may happen that can pull us back to the dark room of sadness & depression. When we get an exam result not up to the expectation, all sorts of negative thoughts start coming up. At the same time we also know that many great achievers in the world are not those who had very good academic profiles. Same thing happens when we fail in a job interview ; all sorts of worries and tensions about future career prospects may start daunting us after one instance of failure. We have to keep  Dr. Abdul Kalam's quote in mind always "FAIL - First Attempt In Learning" . Keeping us motivated at all times is a difficult task , but it is one of the most important quality required for anyone aspiring to be successful in life. See the video presented by Scott Galler at TEDx.

Look at following points and see if they can be of help in developing positive thoughts..

  • Gratitude  : Think about what we already have and what success we have achieved so far. Admire those blessings and aspire for new achievements rather than forgetting what we already have or achieved.
  • Think Good on Yourself:  Fill with good thoughts on your capability and skills and think high on what you can achieve. Learn to ignore depressing comments.
  • Keep good health :  Take care of your health with proper diet and exercise.
  • Be aware of the 'present':  Be there on the 'present' rather than thinking on the past or dreaming for the future.
  • Reflect on yourself:   A true reflection on yourself is a good way to correct yourself.  At least weekly once , think what you have done wrongly and how you could improve it.
Human body and mind possess tremendous power to achieve wonders... Self motivation and positive attitude is a must to unleash that power !!!

Tips for Freshers on How to Start Looking for Jobs

Finished your course, now it is time to look for jobs!  Nowadays we have many companies visiting campuses for recruiting freshers directly from the college/universities; but those who get chance in campus selections are a few comparing with the total number of students getting graduated every year.  By any means this is not an indication that those candidates who are not getting selection in campus recruitment processes are not as competitive and capable as those got selection in campus recruitment process. Many reasons might have contributed for them to be left out and thrown to the wider job market to search and find jobs for them.  In that situation let us see how one can start looking for jobs to start his /her career.

First of all we need to understand that graduate job market is very competitive and your application should stand out from the crowd if it has to get attention of the recruiters.  Recruiters say they look for three key characteristics in a candidate’s job application; Knowledge, Skills & Attitude.  Ensure your application highlights all these points.

Next, search for companies and roles where you think you might get opportunities to work with, identify the requirements of those jobs, identify job sites where you can register free and search for jobs. These job portals give you regular update on job events, possible walk-in interviews, and prospective employers in your city etc. Also discussing with likely minded peers will give you lot of ideas and inspiration in this situation. While searching for jobs, taking steps to enhance the practical skills that you gained during your course is also very essential

Preparing a good CV is another important point. For a fresh graduate there will not be much information to fill in a CV. Still, a clear, concise, simple (avoid gimmicks). Best approach is to keep the CV concise - two pages long – plain and simple.

Attending the interview is the next step.  Congratulations! you have reached to this stage successfully. Now, how to tackle an interview?  Before attending your interview, basic home work is very important. You have to understand your CV very well; you have to brush up the skills mentioned in your CV, workout possible questions that can come up during the interview based on the role you applied. You can also expect some general questions such as “Where you want to foresee yourself after 5 years?” and so on.  Once all these home works are done you can confidently attend the interview

When attending the interview, you have to know one thing that employer called you for the interview because they think you are a good match to their requirement. Now, it is up to you to prove that is the case and be confident in your capabilities and throw out the nervousness if any. Answering questions confidently, keeping right eye contact with the interviewer, taking care of your sitting postures etc. are useful. If there is any question you cannot answer, be open that you are not sure, but give your thought if you think that may be an answer.  Show your readiness to learn new skills during the discussions.  After all no one is perfect. Employers always look for candidate who can work with them as a team and work for their growth; you should show the commitment for this; in every job there is something new to learn for sure!!
